In the 1950s, Perstorp AB was Scandinavia's largest plastics manufacturer. During this time they produced hundreds of different types of plastic products. One of them was the model for today's Hinza bag.

The striped plastic bag quickly became popular in Swedish homes as it was useful for a multitude of purposes, especially for carrying home groceries. In the mid-1960s, grocery stores began offering customers disposable plastic bags, resulting in production of the bag being shut down..

Hinza AB is now run by Karin and Tobias Bachstätter. Karin is a great granddaughter of the founder of Perstorp AB and these practical plastic bags, which she uses daily, have always been a presence in her life.

When Karin and her parents realised that the old plastic bags were no longer available, they decided in 2006 to resume production. The Hinza bag is now not only sold in Sweden but is exported and sold in designer shops all over the world.

A copy of the original Hinza bag from the 1950s is on display at the House of Plastic in Perstorp, Sweden's only plastics museum.

The Hinza bags are manufactured in Sweden in Hillerstorp, taking quality, environment and working conditions into careful consideration. The factory has environmental as well as quality management certification according to ISO - 9001 and ISO - 14001 standards. Situated in close proximity to the factory, Hinza has excellent control over materials and production, and transportation distances are short.

All Hinza bags are long-lasting, durable and recyclable, thus saving additional natural resources and minimising any environmental impact. The Green Plastic version of the Hinza bag is even more eco-friendly as the plastic is made from sugar cane, a renewable raw material.
